“Between Wyomings: My God and an iPod on the Open Road” by Ken Mansfield Review.

Available on Amazon

I got a chance to review “Between Wyomings: My God and an iPod on the Open Road” by Ken Mansfield and I have to say, I really enjoyed it.

A little background first: The author Ken Mansfield is a Grammy Award-winning record producer, former U.S. Manager of Apple Records, a high-ranking executive for several record labels, songwriter, the author of three books, not to mention a cancer survivor. He has been associated with many artists over the years including The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Roy Orbison, Don Ho, the Imperials, Tompall Glaser, Glen Campbell, Dolly Parton and the list goes on. In the 1970s, he helped popularize the Outlaw movement in country music by producing Waylon Jennings’ top-selling album, “Are You Ready for the Country” & the crossover hit “I’m Not Lisa” by Jessi Colter.

This book involved Ken’s road trip with his wife Connie from coast to coast with one final trip to London before returning home. Between Wyomings brings readers along for the ride and oh, what an interesting ride it is! This book reminds me of my dad’s favorite expression, “Life is a journey, not a destination”, it is indeed a reflection of the journey of life.  It was a read I  savored and enjoyed in a quiet environment to absorb Ken’s thoughts along his very personal journey. I enjoyed the portions of the book where he reflected on his journey with God, the ups and the downs. It’s certainly a position most people can relate to, I think. This book wasn’t religious or preachy in any way, it was much more of a spiritual journey. The gem of the book for me was his reflection on his old days with Don Ho, Waylon Jennings, Jessie Colter, the Beatles and many others. He really brought these different artists to life on the page. I would recommend highly this book, especially those interested in the music industry. Now I can’t wait to go back and read his earlier book “The White Book: The Beatles, the Bands, the Biz: An Insider’s Look at an Era”.

Thanks to Thomas Nelson for the chance to review this book. Note: While I did receive a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson, I was not compensated for this review.

I’ll be doing a post of Price Cutter’s very best deals every week for all of you in Missouri who have one of these stores. They double coupons up to $.50 (they won’t double coupons that state “do not double”) and they generally have good sales. On the down side, you have to carefully scrutinize your receipt during and after purchase because they often have their prices wrong (at least at my location). I’ve spent a lot of time in the customer service line as a result. Click on the logo above to check out their website for weekly ads & store locator. Note that any FREE items after coupons will be highlighted in green.

Price Cutter Problems

This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

August 5, 2009 by Fritzie

The past few months at Price Cutter, it seems like I’ve had more negative experiences at my nearest location. I’ve had a lot of incorrect prices at the register, a rude/grumpy cashier on numerous occasions, problems with Internet Coupons (even though they say they take them). I just feel strongly that a customer shouldn’t be treated rudely when the store is at fault. Numerous times, this store has acted put out when they have to correct their own mistake (and I am referring to the incorrect prices, not the coupons).

The funny thing is I have another store about 20 minutes away and on the few occasions I have gone there, I have never had a single problem. It’s too bad, because I really do like some of Price Cutter’s products. I used shop there a minimum of once a week, but I now find myself shopping there less and less. I just started dreading going there and a person should not have to feel that way when they’re going somewhere to spend their hard-earned money. Fortunately, I have plenty of other choices for grocery shopping in my area.

I contacted Price Cutter’s customer service online, but they were less than responsive (and I contacted them twice). It’s too bad. If I were a business, I would want to hear from my customers about any issues they were having so I could improve and bring in more business or at least keep the business I have. UPDATE: I did finally get more than a canned response this afternoon and the Director of Guest Relations said the issues I addressed would be forwarded to the Store Director, so that’s a step in the right direction! 🙂 I also received a very nice email from the Store Director himself.
