November 6, 2012 by Fritzie

While I was out & about today, I stopped in at Aldi to pick up a few things. It was absolutely packed with people, so I didn’t get a chance to browse around a whole lot, but I did notice that they had some Halloween clearance and a few other miscellaneous items marked down.  It was just too crowded to get much of a look, but I did pick up a couple cans of frosting while I was there.

  • 1 Large Head of Cabbage – $1.29
  • Saltines (16 oz.) – $0.89

This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

November 6, 2012 by Fritzie

So, I finally made it to Price Cutter today. I really wanted to get there a lot earlier to take advantage of the hot Red Gold Tomatoes deal, but it has just been kinda crazy the last few days, so I didn’t have a chance to get out until today. I voted, so I finally had a chance to run a few quick errands while I was out. Most of the Red Gold products were completely wiped out (no surprise there), but I was happy that I was able find some left in stock. I also happened across some meat markdowns, which is always great. 🙂 Anyway, here’s my deal from today:

  • 8 cans of Red Gold Whole Peeled Tomatoes (15 oz.) @ $0.79 ea. & 2 jars of Red Gold Salsa (16 oz.) @ $1.19 ea., Got $5.00 off instantly at checkout, Used 4 $1/2 Red Gold coupons (zip 30303, gone now) & 1 $1/2 Red Gold, any ip previously available
  • Black Angus Ground Round (4.44 lbs.) – was $13.28, had a $3.00 coupon, which made it $2.32 per lb. (and yes, it’s lftb free)
  • Black Angus Petite Sirloin (just under 1 lb.) – was $4.47, had a $2.00 coupon so only $2.47
  • Best Choice Four (5 lb. bag) – $0.99
  • Hiland Cottage Cheese (24 oz.) – $2.29, Used 2 $0.50/1 Hiland Cottage Cheese coupons (doubled)
  • Country Crock (45 oz.) – $2.50, Used $0.35/1 Country Crock coupon (doubled)
  • Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Spaghetti (16 oz.) – $1.00 ea., Used 2 $1.00/2 Ronzoni Healthy Harvest coupon on Facebook HERE
  • Final Cost $18.82

My Dollar Tree Shopping Trip (Bare Shelves)

This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

November 1, 2012 by Fritzie

So I ran to a few stores earlier this week in Joplin to use some expiring coupons and I stopped in at Dollar Tree to see what deals I could find. I have to say I was really disappointed in the selection and this is nothing new. I’ve stopped in at our Dollar Tree numerous times since it relocated to the old Deals store after the tornado and the selection has just not been what it has been in the past at their previous location. Even before they started accepting coupons back in August, our Dollar Tree here in Joplin has just had a pretty sparse selection. I’ve asked the manager about the lack of stock and her response was that they have no control over what stock Dollar Tree sends them. In the meantime, there continues to be a lot of empty holes in the shelves each time I’ve gone there to shop. And in some cases, entire shelves have even been almost empty (as pictured below):

I can’t say that I would blame the Dollar Tree entirely for the lack of stock at this store. For one thing, we have a major shortage of any kind of dollar stores here in Joplin, so this single location is very popular and gets really heavy traffic as a result. As I was driving around Joplin running my errands, I started thinking about dollar stores that had been here in the past and how all of them were now gone. 🙁 I’m not talking about just the Dollar Tree chain, but ANY dollar stores (stores where everything is priced at $1.00). So, as a result, the demand is extremely high for the one lonely single location that Joplin does have. I’ve emailed Dollar Tree a couple times and have not gotten much of a response. I would think that the Dollar Tree would want to know how they could improve their store, I know they sure would sell a heck of a lot more if they had more in stock! 😉

Anyway, sorry to be so long-winded, but it’s something I’ve thought about every time I go to our local Dollar Tree, so I just wanted to offer my two cents, whatever that’s worth. Ha! 😉 I did email Dollar Tree again today in detail about the lack of stock, hopefully they’ll take the time to consider the information & reply this time. So, my experience had me wondering if others have had this experience in other cities & locations. Have you run into lack of stock at your local Dollar Tree stores? I would love to hear about it if you have.

Oh, and here’s what I did pick up at the Dollar Tree earlier this week:

  • Nature’s Own Honey Wheat Bread (24 oz.) – $1.00 I love that they offer name brand bread marked down, just keep an eye out on the dates, I always look on the bottom shelves for the freshest dates
  • 3 Betty Crocker Small Cutting Boards – $1.00 ea. I thought these were so cute, I’m just dying to turn these into some sort of craft project, I just have no idea what yet. LOL
  • 3 cans of Libby Beets & 1 can of Libby Potoatoes – $0.79 ea. I like that they offer cans of veggies that are typically priced a little higher than other veggies, so a nice deal after the $1/4 coupon I used (expired 10/31)
  • Crafter’s Source Mini Glue Sticks (20 ct.) – $1.00 Our Dollar Tree needs some MAJOR help in their craft department, they just have SO little selection, but I was happy to find the glue sticks
  • Final Cost $7.67

My Price Cutter Shopping Trips (Great markdowns!)

This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

October 23, 2012 by Fritzie

So, I stopped by Price Cutter a couple times this week to pick up a few deals and check for markdowns. I was lucky enough to find a couple meat markdown items both trips, so that was nice! People have asked me when the best time to find markdowns would be. I have asked the store before and they in the past they’ve said there are no set times, so I guess it’s pretty much hit or miss. I seem to find markdowns during the week, not on weekends usually. Anyway, I usually don’t stop in at Price Cutter this often, but both times I was already going right by the store, so they worked in well with my trips.

Transaction #1:

  • 2 Hiland Cottage Cheese (24 oz.) – $2.29 ea., Used 2 $0.50/1 Hiland Cottage Cheese coupon (doubled)
  • 2 Hiland Orange Juice (half gallon) – $1.39 ea., Used 2 $0.35/1 Hiland Orange Juice coupon (doubled)
  • 3 Eggs (dozen) – $0.99 ea.
  • Pork Country Style Ribs (about 2 lbs.) – Originally $4.08, marked down to $2.08
  • Black Angus Ground Beef (about 3 lbs.) – Originally $6.86, marked down to $4.86
  • Final Cost $14.54

  • 2 Hiland Cottage Cheese (24 oz.) – $2.29 ea., Used 2 $0.50/1 Hiland Cottage Cheese coupon (doubled)
  • 1 Hiland Orange Juice (half gallon) – $1.39, Used $0.35/1 Hiland Orange Juice coupon (doubled)
  • 1 Eggs (dozen) – $0.99
  • Black Angus Ground Beef Patties (3 ct.) – Originally $2.65, marked down to $1.65
  • Black Angus Petite Sirloin – Originally $4.34, marked down to $2.34
  • 6 Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup (10.75 oz) – $0.99, Used Raincheck for $0.59 ea. & Used 2 $0.40/3 Campbell’s soup coupon (doubled)

So I finally had a chance to run to Target earlier this week. Unfortunately, it was on a Sunday, so a lot of things I was looking for were out of stock. Hopefully, I’ll have a chance to get there on a day when they have a bit more on the shelves and I can cross off a few more items on my list. My Aldi Shopping Trip Today (Loving the Markdowns!)

This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

September 28, 2012 by Fritzie

So, I headed to Aldi late morning-ish today to pick up a few essentials. I was already totally stocked up fresh produce from my last 2 trips, so I just grabbed a few staples. I was surprised how wiped out they were today, I guess they hadn’t had a chance to replenish their shelves. I shouldn’t be surprised though, I know being the only Aldi in Joplin, they get a TON of traffic, so keeping the shelves full must be challenging. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love my coupons and continue to use them at other stores, but Aldi still remains one of my favorite places to grocery shop.

Anyway, I didn’t get everything on my list, but was happy to find markdowns in the meat department again, woot! I also noticed they had quite a few non-food items on clearance towards the front of the store at checkout and also had several markdowns throughout the store. They had 4-packs of canned sparkling juice marked down to $1.25 which was tempting, but I passed this time. Anyway, here’s what I ended up with on my Aldi shopping trip today:

  • 2 packs of Chicken of Chicken Thighs (about 4 lbs. ea.), both had $2.00 off coupons, so each pack was $2.69 & $2.39 after the discounts, so worked out as a great deal!
  • Gallon Skim Milk – $2.81
  • Saltine Crackers (16 oz.) – $0.89
  • Benton’s Fig Bar Cookies (13 oz.) – $0.99
  • Canned Whole Tomatoes (28 oz.) – $0.99
  • Tomato Paste (6 oz.) – $0.39
  • Potato Chips (10.5 oz.) – $1.49
  • Hot Dog Buns (8 ct.) – $0.89
  • Honey Wheat Bread (24 oz.) – $1.29
  • Cheese Singles (16 ct.) – $0.99
  • Taco Seasoning – $0.35 (I seriously need to start making my own taco seasoning as much as we go through it around here!)
  • Pinto Beans (29 oz.) – $1.19
  • Final Cost $18.11
