So, I was contacted recently about conducting a taste taste with Carapelli Olive Oil and I jumped at the chance. Olive Oil is something I use a lot when cooking and using with salads, especially Extra Virgin Olive Oil, so I am always willing to give another brand a try. Carapelli Olive Oil has been making olive oil since 1983 and is headquartered in Florence Italy. Their olive oil is made solely from the first cold pressing of 100% Italian olive oils with an intense, robust flavor & aroma.

So, the fun part! I got to partake in my own little tasting session of my own & similar to a wine tasting, there are a few steps involved in  the process of an olive oil tasting.

1. Swirl – By swirling the olive oil in a glass, you release the oil’s esters which are the molecules that contain the aroma
2. Sniff – Inhale Deeply. The aroma is the key to the fruitiness of the oil.
3. Slurp – Sip the oil while “sipping” in a bit of air. The slurping action emulsifies the oil and helps spread it throughout your mouth.
4. Swallow – Once swallowing the oil, note any sensations or aftertaste

So, I got to sample Carapelli’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil & performed the above test (I found the slurping part especially entertaining lol).  I thought the aroma to be robust, fruity & very pleasant. It was very smooth tasting, not to mention tasting notably of very fresh olives and it had zero aftertaste. It would definitely be great used as a salad dressing for mixed greens or tossed in to lightly sauteed veggies. Is it lunchtime yet?! Ha!
