The 40th anniversary of Earth Day is right around the corner on April 22nd and for Green Giant, it’s all about trying to live up to the name by working every day to care for the land, the people who grow our vegetables and the families who share our vegetables at their tables. Throughout its century-long history, Green Giant has worked to reduce its environmental footprint through many measures including:

  • Reducing the amount of land and water needed to grow vegetables
  • Packing vegetables in smaller, lighter cans, so it takes less fuel to deliver them to supermarket shelves
  • Utilizing traditional seed breeding methods over the last 35 years to double the amount of sweet corn grown on an acre of land
  • Teaming up with growers to install a more efficient irrigation system that can reduce water use by more than a million gallons a year;
  • Switching to more earth-friendly paperboard to package frozen vegetables, saving approximately 54,000 trees annually in the process.

Green Giant is now celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day by giving $200,000 to The Nature Conservancy to help fund an innovative project that will encourage greener farming practices to repair and protect a natural treasure – the Root River, one of Minnesota´s (home to Green Giant) best trout streams. Personally, I didn’t realize that Green Giant took all these “green” steps and I think that’s great. I’ve always loved Green Giant products and this makes me like them all the more. And I love that they are making such a generous donation to The Nature Conservancy, they are such a worthy cause, I’ve donated to them myself several times over the last few years.

I got the opportunity to try out Silk Pure Almond Milk and I was not disappointed! I have to admit, I am not a big milk person, but I do like Silk’s products and I LOVE almonds. Almonds have a lot of great healthy benefits, so I was anxious to try this milk. I tried the Silk Pure Almond Vanilla and I really enjoyed it. It was rich and creamy with no aftertaste. I’m very picky about lotions, particularly for my face. I have tried numerous lotions over the years in every possible price range. During my search, I found a lot of lotions that didn’t work, some that even made my face break out. One of my worst experiences was one that made my face peel (it was an expensive brand too). A lot of facial lotions have ended up in my trash can over the years, but this was certainly not the case here! I was really impressed with Skin MD’s Shielding Lotion. It doesn’t feel like other lotions, it goes on smooth and doesn’t take a large amount to be effective. I’ve used this lotion over the course of a couple weeks and have noticed a difference. My foundation even goes on smoother and looks better as a result. My skin no longer feels dry and scaly, which is even more of a problem for me during the winter months. I am totally sold on this product, I’ll be using it in the future, I’m so glad I got a chance to try it out!

I’m pretty picky about my lip balms, I use them all the time. I hadn’t tried Softlips before and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the way it moisturized and it lasted a long time, longer than the lip balm I had currently been using. I really like the Holiday flavors and what I really liked about them is that the scents aren’t in your face. To me there’s nothing more nauseating than some overly gooey, sickly heavily-scented lip balm. Like I really want to go around smelling my lips all day Lol. These all had a nice light scent, not overpowering at all. I liked them all, but my favorites were a toss-up between the new Sugar Plum and the Winter Mint.

I was given the chance to try a great new product called “Anti Monkey Butt Powder”.  So what the heck is it, you ask?!?! I gave it a go and did find it worked really great with exercising, and it was soothing, a nice soft feel instead of that irritating rubbing.
