I was recently invited to participate in The Tastes from Home with Frito-Lay, a special invitation-only recipe contest. The contest is a way of celebrating the unique flavors and cuisines from regions all over the country. These are the same flavors and cuisines inspired Frito-Lay’s delicious lineup of Lay’s Regional Flavors made with all-natural ingredients.

Flavors include:

  • Northeastern U.S. – Lay’s Honey Mustard
  • Midwestern U.S. – Lay’s Creamy Garden Ranch
  • Northwestern U.S. – Lay’s Balsamic Sweet Onion
  • Southwestern U.S. – Lay’s Chipotle Ranch
  • Southeastern U.S. – Lay’s Cajun Herb & Spice

All of the Lay’s Regional Flavored potato chips are made with all natural ingredients, and are cooked in healthier oils so they contain 0 grams of trans fats per serving. I’m really glad that Lay’s made the decision to make their flavored chips with all natural ingredients. I’ve always been a huge fan of Lay’s chips, but I tended to stay away from the flavored varieties because of the ingredients. But not now! I recently tried the Creamy Garden Ranch flavor & it will definitely be a new favorite of mine. And having always been a fan of chipotle (or anything spicy for that matter!), I’ll be trying the Chipotle Ranch flavor next.

I was asked to submit any recipe that reminds me of home. After thinking about this one awhile, one of the things that reminds me of home is the fact that here in Southwest Missouri we are blessed with the availability of great quality & reasonably priced Black Angus Beef. So, I decided to go with a classic Party Hamburger Cheese Dip which goes great with the upcoming football season (or any occasion). And I like to pair this dip with a nice sturdy chip like Fritos Dip Chips or Tostitos Scoops.

Party Hamburger Cheese Dip

Ingredients
1 pound Ground Round Black Angus Beef
2 pounds Velveeta Cheese, cubed
1 can Diced Tomatoes with Green Chiles (approx. 10 oz. can, you can go with Ro-Tel, Red Gold is my favorite brand)
1/4 Cup Sweet Yellow Onion, diced
1 Jalapeno Pepper, seeded and diced (optional)
1 pinch of coarse ground pepper (or more if desired)
Tabasco to taste (optional)

In a skillet, brown the ground beef, adding the onion, jalapeno pepper, pepper & tabasco (optional flavors) in the last few minutes of the cooking process. Drain off fat. Pour the browned meat mixture into a Crock Pot. Add the Diced Tomatoes with Green Chiles & cubed Velveeta. Set the Crock Pot on LOW until cheese has melted and is thoroughly heated & blended throughout. Serve with corn or tortilla chips of your choice.

And now I have great news! One lucky winner will win a variety pack of our Lay’s Regional Flavors potato chips.
